From download to your first boss in about an hour. Here's the whole trip.
Xiah Reborn is in an invite-only alpha right now. Testers get the download link from the team; if you'd like to join, ask on the feedback site.

Windows: run the launcher file you downloaded. Because our download isn't code-signed yet, Windows may show "Windows protected your PC". Click More info, then Run anyway. (Only do this for the file you got from the team.)
Mac: unzip the download and open Xiah Reborn. The first time, macOS says it can't check the app. Open System Settings > Privacy & Security, scroll down and click Open Anyway, then confirm. You only do this once.
The launcher checks your game files, downloads the game (or the latest update) and then shows a big PLAY button. Updates install automatically by default, so you're always on the latest version.
Handy things in the launcher's Settings > Game: change the install folder, and Repair game files if the game ever acts strange after an update.

Drag martial arts and potions onto the quick bar at the bottom of the screen and use them with their keys.
You arrive in the Prairie village (map). The paved village is a safe zone: monsters won't follow you in there, so it's a good place to catch your breath.
Press Q to see your quests. The first ones form a short chain that teaches you the game:
By the end you'll be around level 6 with a better weapon, and ready for the Leveling Guide.
Look it up in the database: browse items to check potions, weapons and other gear.
